    We do not invest based on signals or statistics. We invest based on due diligence and insight. We do not make our investment conditional upon someone else investing. We invest because we have formed our own opinion that we stand behind, so that we fully believe in the endeavor. This also means that we like to keep our portfolio small and carefully chosen. Not every company will be the right fit for our approach to investing and we will not be the right fit for every company's approach, and that's perfectly okay.

  • Co-Creating

    We are entrepreneurs ourselves and we are not afraid to get our hands dirty. Because every venture has a unique set of needs at any given point in time, we sit down with the founders and figure out exactly what they think they need and how we can help. As active investors, we challenge assumptions, push boundaries, and clarify objectives by helping founders see more clearly how their choices will play out and then deploying all of our resources and attention around the chosen solutions. We prefer to facilitate rather than to spectate progress.

  • Value Rather Than Valuation

    Valuations are important, but we think of them as a byproduct of value creation rather than the end-goal of entrepreneurship. This is why we spend as much time as possible with founders during the due diligence process to fully understand what kind of success and value matter to this particular team with this particular venture. To us, the best businesses create value as defined by them and let the valuation reflect that value. Not the other way around. Because we invest for the long-term, we can be patient.

    We believe that a lot of startups fail not because the innovations are inherently flawed; rather because the founders do not get the right advice at the right time for the right decisions. Enticing the wisest investor in the world does not matter if you have no way to learn from that investor and mobilize the investor’s resources in a meaningful way. We raise ambitions and accelerate trajectories to elevate each enterprise into an emprise – something daring, something meaningful, something worth living for.

    Every entrepreneurial team has a different vision of success. As investors, we want to do our best to not only understand your vision for what success means to you, but also align your vision and ours to ensure that we are pursuing the same goals. From our experience, when the entire company knows concretely and tangibly its future destination, every decision becomes easier. To us, the success of the technology is inextricably linked with the success of the company, so we take the time to define the success for both.

    To us, transforming an industry goes beyond developing new technology or deploying a new business model. Transformation is about changing the thinking and decision-making that companies need to engage in to be successful. This is why we look for irreversible innovation – innovation from which the industry can always move forward but can never go back to the way the industry used to be. And that starts with how the company's proposed innovation changes our own thinking during our due diligence.

    We invest into purposeful change that lasts. We are most interested in companies that want to leave their mark on the world rather than just take their money from the world. What we look for in our founders is a mission to build and leave a legacy that will pivot, shape, and frame the future history of their chosen field. Legacies take time to manifest and make themselves apparent, a reality we appreciate and also one we believe is changing: the barriers to building, and leaving a legacy are lower than ever before.

    We look for optimal funding structures. We figure out with the founders what kind of funding makes the most sense to advance their venture because more money is not always the best solution. This requires flexibility and honesty, and it’s always worth it.

  • Foster

    We invest to co-create, not spectate. We would rather be in the arena with the founders than in the bleachers with the onlookers. This does not mean that we micromanage or overstep – this means that we mentor and assist.
